Background:
Wiki link history.
Personality:
Kael'Thas first and foremost is an Elven Prince. He holds himself very regally, and politely, with a high standard of etiquette. Thus, he has mastered the art of playing politics. He is concise and to the point when he speaks, he commands the obedience of others of his rank with ease, and even in disagreements of opinion he manages to disagree without allowing things to escalate to an unpleasant argument. He is a master of keeping his emotions to himself, and outwardly keeping a cool head in the most devastating of circumstances. That said, he does have a temper, and while he can almost always keep it under control, it can bleed through from time to time.
In spite of all his political savvy, he does not handle himself quite as well casually. In what seems to be an inability to step out of his political state of mind and speak casually, he somehow manages to come of as stiff and awkward despite having a charming and elegant air to him. He will go about pleasantries, and dull idle chit-chat, and all the while make an effort to engage in the others stories and exploits- and it gives the distinct impression of one trying far too hard to be boringly normal. On the very rare occasions he’s more candid, particularly the more hopped on the Fel magic he gets, the more catty and insulting he gets.
That is not the only place that his station in life has stunted him. Likely he was very sheltered for most of his life, and brought up that as a prince his opinion was not wrong. Thus, despite having a cut-throat view on political matters, he remains very earnest, and very gullible, and very prone not to thinks things through as much as he should. As such, he was hardly ready to take on the mantle of leader of his people when it was thrust upon him.
Kael'Thas is also a man who cuts no corners when it comes to him homeland and it's people. And, no surprise, this gets him into quite a bit of trouble when added to his earnestness and gullibility. Sprinkle on some princely arrogance and stubbornness and you have yourself a walking disaster on your hands. He will give everything 110% when he probably would have been far better off only giving it 80% and calling it quits to try something else. He also doesn't change his focus when he has his mind set to something, even if the method he's pursuing is growing more and more dangerous.
Kael’thas understandably holds a bitter resentment for Arthas, not only did he steal the woman he had feelings for, but the he was the one that lead the attack that destroyed his city, killed his father, corrupted the Sunwell, and brought his people to the brink of extinction. Part of his goal is to amass enough power to bring the fight to Arthas for the sake of vengeance (which he does- and fails, surprise surprise).
Ultimately, Kael'Thas is a man who has been dealt a poor hand he was not yet ready for, and while he tried to step up to the challenge to the best of his ability, he was not prepared. He would do anything for the sake of his people, regardless of the means, which leads to his downfall, and causes his people to suffer further because of his actions.
Abilities:
Kael'Thas is a renown fire mage, and a member of the counsel of 6 of the Kirin Tor. As such he knows a variety of spells, including the creating of portals and teleporting groups of people. Granted sometimes he seems to forget he can do this. He is renown for his ability to conjure magical shields, and summoning phoenix, as well as his enchanting abilities. He’s capable of enchanting an arsenal of weapons to fight on their own, and with decent skill.
But really it’s mostly just fire. He’s super good at throwing fire at things. And fire birds.
Mages in general can also cast frost and arcane spells, conjure food. And of course conjuring water elementals, which is far more common that phoenix. They’re handy for doing laundry apparently.
Felo'Malorne- At some point he has the legendary blade of his great ancestors reforged, stronger than before to use against Arthas in the battle in Northrend. It's probably magical somehow or something, legendary blade and all, it was never quite elaborated on. Apparently it doesn't break against Frostmourne the second time. He's also got the skull of his father with him- apparently it's also a powerful magical artifact albeit a very gross one. No real mention on what it does beyond “has a lot of magic”.
Raid fight abilities.
Alignment: Peromei:
I chose despair and hope for Kael’thas because the emotions are such an integral part of his character and what drives him. The despair of losing everything, the woman he loves, his father, his home, essentially taking the mantle of leader over a broken people, yet he still desperately clung to some hope that there was a way to fix it.A hope which ultimately ruined him.

Remember that we ask for samples that show 1) core character portrayal and 2) some use of emotions, such as environmental effect. You can also use the same sample source for both, just make sure to directly link or quote the emotion portion. General Sample:
Fingers drummed against the pages of one of the many books strewed across the table. A small fiery bird perched upon Kael’s shoulder, chirping to garner the prince’s attention, but he was too lost in his study to notice. This city was strange, and not the most pleasant of places, though as far as prisons went, this was the best he’s experienced. He knew he had to get back to his people, he needed to lead, but this place had access to far more magics than any on Azeroth. Surely there was some way to find a cure for his people, he had already found methods to sate the gnawing hunter that plagued him, but only temporarily.
A hard bite to his ear snapped him from his brooding, and in his surprise took a moment to realize it came from the neglected hatchling glaring at him from his shoulder. He let out a sigh and shook his head, reaching up to the bird to scratch its neck.
“I suppose I have been at this too long haven’t I?” He spoke as he glanced out the window to see that the sun had long since gone down, the bird, however, did not care beyond the neck scritches it was getting, “That is more than enough for today then, perhaps tomorrow I shall take the day to learn the layout of the city?”
With a final chirp the phoenix flew from his shoulder, and into another room. Kael did not pay it much mind, the attention span of a fire elemental was short on a good day. Instead he waved a hand, his piles of books straightening themselves before vanishing to their proper places, another was of his hand summoned a pastry which was to be his dinner. It earned another sigh, and he continued speaking despite no longer having any company in the room with him, “And perhaps I might see what they have for food as well. I have had enough conjured pastries to last me several lifetimes.”
Emotion Sample:
[Kael’thas stood with his back pressed against the shelf of a library. One moment he had been reading, while unintentionally forced to eavesdrop on a couple nearby, and the next thing he knew he could smell nothing but burnt hair, and the young man who had been speaking was rolling on the floor trying to smother the flames that had taken over his back and hair.
The prince’s initial reaction was to look for the source, but he saw nothing and no one that could have done such a thing, aside from himself, of course. Certainly it could not have been him, he had not even so much as touched his mana reserves, but it was certainly not the pair shrieking to the heavens over the incident either. He was not given the opportunity to dwell on the matter, the young woman had grabbed ahold of his arm and was pulling violently on his robes. He went rigid against her pulls, his shoulders squared off, his posture perfect, and his jaw set very very tense. Slowly and calmly he reached over to pry the woman’s hand off his robes, which he almost compulsively smoothed out after.]
Now, now, panicking will not solve anything. Be still, I shall put him out.
[He had tried to keep his tone impartial, but there was a subtle edge of exasperation to it. Not unlike how he addressed some of the more trying students back in Dalaran, fortunately he doubted she noticed, she just seemed to be staring at him wide-eyed… it was somewhat unsettling to be honest, but he had another matter to focus on. The buffoon on the floor threatened to set the entire library on fire with his flailing, and despite frost magic being far from his forte, it did not take much to conjure a weak frostbolt and launching it forward. It successfully put out the flames, possibly also gave the stranger a concussion, but that was hardly his problem.
He turned to once more read over his book, trying to disregard the couple now that the matter was settled. Now he could try to go over the events that lead to the man lighting up like a candle, but all he could recall was the man speaking of undead from his world. Almost as soon as his mind started to dwell on the undead, the temperature in the room skyrocketed, and Kael was so lost in thought he failed to notice until the book in his hands started smoldering. Then slowly it dawned on him, he hadn’t entirely bought it at first, but emotion shaped this place.
He closed and reshelved the book, then turned to head outside. He needed a walk to clear his head lest he burn the library down with his temper.]
